Un felice anno 2014 a tutti i lettori del Corriere!
Let´s celebrate it with one of the most beautiful Strauß-waltzes. Not Johann though, but the much underrated Josef. A wealth of melodies and themes in this waltz, one more beautiful than the other- and in the expert and masterly hands here of Clemens Krauss – first conductor of the New Year´s Concert – and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. At times caressing and dreamily, at times proud and passionate (from 6:00 on returning to the main theme of the waltz). Sometimes a little aloof and aristocratic, but never vain and NEVER blunt or ordinary or showing off for his own purpose. Barenboim, this year´s conductor cites Karajan as his role model for these waltzes and polkas. And while Karajan generously put his own stamp on these gems, Krauss did exactly the opposite. He lets the music speak for itself and serves it rather than dominating it…..

Carissimi, tanti auguri anche da parte mia. Vi conosco solo da qualche mese, ma oramai siete diventati un appuntamento quasi quotidiano. Grazie per tutto quello che fate e per il grande servizio che rendete alla musica, in primis, e poi anche a noi.
Mi permetto solo di dire, Selma, che, se davvero il modello di Barenboim era Karajan, i risultati erano completamente diversi.
Grazie Selma, per gli auguri ed il magnifico walzer, riparatore di quell’orrore di concerto di Capodanno tramesso oggi da Venezia al solo fine di rovinarci la festa ed il pranzo!

Che differenza tra il Baremboim di oggi (traduzione: vorrei ma non posso) e l’eleganza e finezza di una direzione da autentico erede della gloriosa tradizione imperiale di Vienne di un Carlos Kleiber.
